Stephen Appiah Reacts to Ghana stadium ban by CAF

Stephen Appiah, the former captain of the Black Stars, has expressed his disappointment with Ghana’s inability to maintain a single stadium that is capable of conducting international matches.

Stephen Appiah’s comments are in response to the recent directive from the African Football Confederation (CAF) that prohibits the use of Baba Yara Stadium to host Category 3 matches due to inadequate conditions.

Ghana is currently in the process of securing an alternative venue, as the possibility of playing in another country is approaching.

Playing a qualifier outside of Ghana, except in a tournament, is a national embarrassment,” Stephen Appiah expressed his frustration with X. we must prioritize the hosting of our own tournaments and safeguard our football pride.

His frustration is reminiscent of the dissatisfaction that many Ghanaians expressed upon learning that their next game may be played in a neighboring country.

The Baba Yara Stadium, which was previously the sole authorized venue in Ghana for international events, was the subject of scrutiny following the Black Stars’ home loss to Angola. The deplorable condition of the pitch became the primary focus, despite the loss.

In an effort to secure a venue for their forthcoming AFCON qualifier against Sudan in October, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has directed the Ghana Football Association to extend an invitation to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to inspect both the University of Ghana Stadium and the Accra Sports Stadium.
