Prosper Narteh Ogum makes sensational return as Asante Kotoko coach

Almost precisely one year after Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum abruptly resigned from his position as head coach of Asante Kotoko due to disagreements with the club’s management, the club has reappointed Ogum to the position.

Notably, on Saturday, Ogum was spotted at Kotoko’s Adako Jachie facility, where he was seen engaged in constructive conversations with Kwesi Appiah, a former captain of Kotoko and a coach for Ghana.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has tasked Appiah with leading the club in the absence of a board and administration. One of the key obligations that have been given to Appiah is to locate a good coach and oversee the recruitment process.

Otumfuo made this decision on Friday, and Appiah acted right away, which suggests that he may have already chosen the ideal person to serve as the club’s head coach.

Even before the meeting, there was a lot of speculation that Ogum would return to the club after leaving in 2022. A meeting that took place today between Ogum and Kwesi Appiah at the Adako Jachie implies that Ogum is almost certainly going to take over as head coach.

Ogum, who has served as a coach for West Africa Football Club (WAFA) in the past, was given his current position just before the start of the 2021/22 season. He was successful in breaking the team’s eight-year trophy drought by leading them to victory in the Ghana Premier League.

Burkinabe trainer Seydou Zerbo was brought in to take his place. Zerbo was only fired in the midst of the season due to the team’s dismal performance in all competitions, including an early exit from the CAF Champions League and the FA Cup.

As a result of Zerbo’s dismissal, Abdul Gazale was promoted to the position of head coach on an interim basis. Under his direction, the team finished in fourth place, trailing Medeama SC, Aduana Stars, and Bechem United.

In the following days, before the start of the new season, it is anticipated that the club will also reveal a new board of directors and management staff.
