NDC to deliver the ‘True State of the Nation’ address today

Just over a fortnight after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered the State of the Nation Address, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) announced that it will also deliver what it refers to as the “True State of the Nation Address” today, Monday, March 20, 2023. The date of the speech was March 20, 2023.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, will deliver the keynote address at the event, which will be held at the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA).

It is anticipated that the ‘True State of the Nation Address” will serve as a rebuttal to “The State of the Nation Address” that was given by President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, March 8.

It is anticipated that the address given by the NDC, which will be overseen by the party’s National Communications Bureau, will place a significant amount of emphasis on the economy as well as the factors that have led to the need for a bailout from the IMF.

In the meantime, the minority in Parliament believes that Ghana will not be able to secure board approval from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at the end of March 2023, despite the assertions made by the government in this regard.

It was explained by the opposition group that the government has not been able to fulfill the financing assurances regarding the bailout. These financing assurances include the board documents.

“Mr. Speaker, I have it on good authority from our President that Ghana would get an approval from the IMF Board by the end of this month.

I don’t know who is briefing our president, but Ghana will not be able to get an approval from the IMF Board by the end of this month because the board documents have already been prepared.

“We need to get China to give Ghana financing assurance and that they are ready to take a haircut, and China has not agreed,” Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson said. “We need to get China to give Ghana financing assurance and that they are ready to take a haircut.”
