Calib Cassim Biography and Career
Calib Cassim is in charge of and oversees the management of the company’s financial strategy in all of its facets. Cassim has been working for Eskom since 2001 and was formerly the head of the regulation department at the utility.
Calib Cassim is a chartered accountant who earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Natal, his honors degree from Unisa, and a master’s degree in business leadership from the University of South Africa.

The previous CEO of Eskom, Andre De Ruyter, had planned to step down from his position at the company at the end of March. However, late on the evening of Tuesday, February 21, it was announced that his departure would take effect immediately.
Andre de Ruyter gave an explosive interview in which he claimed that a “senior politician” was involved in corruption at Eskom. This led to his departure from his position.
As the fallout from his interview continued, the board of Eskom announced that the CEO would be leaving the state-owned entity with immediate effect. Calib Cassim was appointed to take his place as a result of the announcement.
At the moment, it is not clear if Cassim will stay in the job permanently. However, his job as CEO of Eskom is already hard because South Africa is in the middle of its worst energy crisis ever.
