Wontumi vows to reposition NDC on ballot paper

Popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, Bernard Antwi Boasiako of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has threatened to have the National Democratic Congress (NDC) moved from its present eighth place on the ballot paper to the 6th or 7th position.

Wontumi says this will show his power and influence.

He said these things during an interview on the Kumasi-based radio station Wontumi FM.

Wontumi

“Where NDC people are like 8 or wherever, I will make them move from there to 7 or 6. I’m telling you, to show the strength and power,” he stated.

Wontumi is well-known for making outlandish claims, some of which seem to be simple exhibition. It’s not known if this is one such incident or how he plans to carry out his unusual threat.

Usually in Ghana, the sequence of candidates on the ballot is decided based on the declaration of the political party nominees.

The Ghanaian Electoral Commission conducted advance voting on September 20, 2024, ahead of the next general elections.

This process determines the sequence in which names of candidates will show on the ballot for both presidential and parliamentary elections.

Candidates from several political parties in Ghana submitted their preferences for the upcoming general election on that same day. The most often used political party was the New Patriotic Party (NPP), followed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), eighth.

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) came fourth; the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) got fifth. Independent candidates sat in places two through six.

These positions are therefore quite important since they could affect voting behaviour. Usually, candidates look for jobs that maximize public awareness of them.
