An unemployed man was been jailed to two years in prison after stealing electrical cables from La in Accra.
Ebenezer Tetteh was convicted of stealing cables whose worth and ownership were unknown to the court.
The unemployed man pleaded guilty with an explanation but was found guilty on his plea by the court, presided over by Mrs. Sedinam Awo Kwadam. According to the court, his explanation proved his guilt.
The court further ordered that the stolen cables be held in police custody until the correct owner provides proof of ownership.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah, alleged that the complainant and witnesses were police officers from the Cantonments Division. In contrast, the accused lived in Apapa, a suburb of La in Accra.
On February 20, 2025, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a police patrol squad stopped a taxicab outside the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel as part of their usual night patrol. A search of the car revealed numerous electrical cords, which Tetteh, who was on board, said belonged to him.
However, following additional interrogation, the authorities suspected foul play because the accused did not offer proof of ownership. He was then detained and brought to the La Police Station, along with the cables.
During the investigation, Tetteh admitted to stealing the wires but had yet to direct the authorities to the exact location of the heist. The authorities are still attempting to identify the owner of the stolen property.
