The John D. Smysor Educational Foundation, Inc. was created to provide scholarships to high school students who have excelled in both academics and athletics but still need money to pursue their postsecondary education ambitions. The John D. Smysor Foundation will assist 10 (10) deserving students each year with permanent two-year scholarships worth up to $4,000 to support students who wish to further their studies.

The award is not determined just by athletic or performance records, and it is not tied to any one sport or team at a higher education institution. Additionally, students are only permitted to receive one prize each academic year.
