School Feeding: Cost Per Meal To Be Increased From GH¢1 To GH¢1.20 – Minister

Lariba Zuweira Abudu, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, has announced that the price of School Feeding for a school child will go up from GH1 to GH1.20.

The 1,20 Ghana cedi suggestion came after the catering industry requested that the government raise the price of feeding each child.

“The cost of feeding a child per meal per day has been proposed to be GH1.20 in 2023,” she said. “In 2018, the cost of feeding a child per meal per day was 80 pesewas (80 Gp), and this year, the cost has been increased to GH1.20 ps.”

During her remarks at a press event in Accra, Lariba Zuweira Abudu mentioned that the school feeding program has helped to provide employment opportunities for a variety of people, particularly women.

She stated that the GSFP had made it possible for caterers to create cash so that they could provide for their families.

Additionally, the program has established a market for regional farmers.

According to the Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, there were approximately 34,350 caterers working under the school feeding program. These caterers prepared meals for approximately 3,801,491 beneficiaries in 10,832 public basic schools located all throughout the country.

She divulged the information that software has been designed to manage the data associated with her company as well as monitor the activities of caterers.

The minister has announced that the arrears payments for the school food caterers who worked during the third term of the 2022 academic year will be made this week.
