Police arrest Former MP, 2 others over violent clashes at Nsoatreman-Kotoko match

The Ghana Police Service has detained three people concerning the violent skirmishes during a football match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko in Nsoatre, Bono Region.

The sad occurrence that occurred on Sunday, February 2, resulted in the untimely loss of a devoted Asante Kotoko supporter, Francis Frimpong, well known as Nana Pooley.

According to a statement, the suspects are former Sunyani West MP Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Agyemang Duah Owusu, and Kyeremeh Joseph.

According to the statement, the trio are still in police custody and collaborating with investigations.

During a search of suspect Agyemang Duah Owusu’s home, police seized two garments with suspected bloodstains and an MP 23 weapon loaded with 15 rounds of ammo.

The findings have raised further concerns about the escalation of violence at football matches,” according to a statement.

Meanwhile, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has personally reached out to the deceased’s family and the leadership of Asante Kotoko to express the Police Service’s condolences.

He has promised them a thorough investigation to guarantee justice is done.
