Pay Special Prosecutor’s 16-months Salary Arears – Minority to Akuffo Addo

The minority faction in Parliament has leveled the accusation that the government has failed to pay the salary of the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyabeng, for the previous sixteen months.

According to the organization, the stance that the administration has taken toward the Special Prosecutor casts doubt on its dedication to the cause of rooting out corruption.

Prior to the presentation of the annual budget estimates report of the Office of Special Prosecutor for the year 2023 by the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, voiced her worry over the matter.

“Office of Special Prosecutor, you put that individual there, and you haven’t established what his condition of service is yet. He hasn’t been compensated. There have been several appointments made, which raise doubts about whether or not the board was aware of them at the time.

We need to conduct further research into what’s going on in the Special Prosecutor’s Office. You have come to me for a report despite the fact that he has not been paid in over a year. “In the meanwhile, there has been no report filed here,” Mr. Iddrisu stated.

An enraged leader of the minority party demanded to know how any of the government appointees who had remained silent on the matter could possibly survive without a paycheck.

“Your commitment to tackling corruption starts with independent constitutional entities like the Special Prosecutor, who has been denied salary,” you have stated. Is there anyone among you who could survive without a salary? he stated.

He issued a warning to the administration, advising them not to provide any report to the judiciary until the pay of the Special Prosecutor has been paid.

According to Article 179 of President Nana Akufo-comments Addo’s on the court’s budget, “Nobody would lay a report in respect of the judiciary here unless we get the formal communication from President Nana Akufo-Addo,” He warned anyone listening to him to “stay away from the budget of the courts and the Special Prosecutor.”

In August of 2021, President Nana Akufo-Addo administered the oath of office to Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng. Prior to that, Parliament had given its approval for her to take on the post.
