Passport office hotlines released to stop corruption, mistreatment: Check it out

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has set up hotlines for applicants who experience extortion and other forms of mistreatment at the numerous passport offices spread out across the nation.
Calling any of the hotlines or sending an email is something that the Ministry strongly encourages applicants who have been subjected to any kind of extortion or harassment at the hands of personnel to do.

Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ghana, bemoaned the corruption that has engulfed the activities of staff and “goro boys and girls” during an unannounced visit to the passport office last week. The visit took place without prior notice.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on August 17 expressing their concern regarding these incidents and explaining how the hotlines will help combat the problem.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has observed with grave concerns some complaints filed by applicants alleging that they were subjected to extortion and mistreatment at some Application Centres (PACs).” In an effort to combat the problem, the Ministry has issued a call to action to applicants who have been subjected to any form of improper treatment or corruption: “Report such incidents!”
In addition, the Ministry strongly recommended to applicants that they do not hire any staff members who do not wear name tags.
The Ministry has stated once again that any officer who has been in their position for more than a year will be replaced.
