PHOTOS: Parents and students rush for “last free SHS slot”

Hundreds of anxious JHS graduates, accompanied by their parents, flocked to the National Resolution Centre on Thursday, hoping to resolve different issues with their Senior High School (SHS) placement.

With the registration process underway in several schools and academic activities set to resume on November 7, some students have yet to secure their spots.

Frustration was visible on the faces of parents and students who were attempting to change schools, transition from day to boarding status, or settle other concerns.

On Tuesday, October 29, the Ministry of Education revealed the 2024/25 placement results for SHS and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes.

The Ministry reported that 553,155 candidates qualified for placement from the 563,339 results submitted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Of these, 447,698 (80.93%) were automatically enrolled in one of their preferred schools.

An extra 104,918 qualified candidates were not matched with any of their preferred schools and were directed to use the Self-Placement program to find a school of their choice.
