NUGS Wants National Service Allowance Increased to GHS800

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has sent a petition to the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, requesting that the allowance for National Service Personnel be raised to GH800 from GH559.
The president of NUGS, whose name is Dennis Appiah Larbi, said that the current allocation is “not in any way reasonable!”
In a post he made on social media, Mr. Larbi claimed that the request was made to President Akufo-Addo on Thursday during a meeting (November 3, 2022).

Mr. Larbi said that the leaders of NUGS told the president that granting the request would be seen as a sign of good faith by the young people of the country.

“This afternoon, I requested from the President of the Republic in a meeting, an increase in NSS allowance to 800 cedis,” he posted on Facebook.

“Showing good faith is important in getting young people to understand the times we find ourselves in. As part of the request to the President of Ghana this afternoon, we made a passionate request for an increment in NSS allowance to 800 cedis! I repeat 559 is not in any way understandable!”

In view of the current state of the economy, NUGS also made a request to the President to put a halt to the collection of school and accommodation fees.
