NLC to meet CETAG today over strike

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) is set to meet with the leadership of the National Labour Commission (NLC) in order to discuss the strike that CETAG is currently participating in.

After the government failed to implement the agreed-upon terms of their conditions of service, CETAG employees went on strike on August 1 and have not stopped since.

The association has not wavered from its determination in spite of the Commission’s repeated requests that the group call off the strike.

NLC to meet CETAG today over strike

The union is adamant that its members won’t go back to work until they see some sort of commitment from the government to meet their requirements.

In the meantime, the National Labour Committee has stated that it will be compelled to take legal action if the strike by CETAG continues.

Members of CETAG from each of the 46 training institutions have been on strike since the first of August, claiming the government’s inability to adhere to the NLC’s Arbitral Award Orders and the conditions of employment that were negotiated beginning on May 2, 2023.

Due to the fact that the agreed-upon agreements have not yet been executed, the stalemate has not been resolved, despite the fact that the Ministry of Finance has been notified multiple times.

In an interview that took place on Monday with Citi News, Ofosu Asamoah, the Executive Secretary of the NLC, stated that the commission intended to take the case to court in the event that the strike remained in effect.
