Nine MPs in Washington DC for $3bn IMF bailout

As the government aims to secure a support of $3 billion dollars, a nine-member delegation of Members of Parliament is now in Washington, DC, in the United States of America for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Spring meetings. Washington, DC, is located in the United States of America.

The delegation is a member of a larger team that also includes Ghana’s Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, and other members of Ghana’s team responsible for economic management.

At the meetings, it is anticipated that the group would have a discussion with commercial, bilateral, and multilateral creditors in an effort to convince the IMF board to approve the contract.

The head of the delegation of MPs, the Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, Dr. Emmanuel Marfo, speaking on the substance of the lawmakers at the meeting, stated that it is vital for there to be appropriate laws to ensure that the government implements the funding that it obtains from the IMF.

In the meantime, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has signaled that it is willing to keep putting pressure on wealthier countries to forgive the debt of less developed nations.

The Fund has indicated that the topic of debt cancellation and restructuring will take center stage during the spring meeting it will hold in Washington, DC.

The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, gave an interview to the media prior to the conference, and she stated that the majority of impoverished countries are experiencing difficulties and want debt forgiveness from wealthier nations.
