Angry tricycle riders block parts of Kumasi streets in protest of KMA restrictions

The Aboabo highway in Kumasi came to a complete standstill as a result of a group of commercial tricycle riders demonstrating their vehement disagreement with the limits that were imposed by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

As a result of the protest, there is now animosity between the riders and the KMA, which has raised concerns about the potential for interruptions to traffic.

The tricycle riders’ protest action was a response to the KMA’s decongestion exercise, which attempted to contain their activities to a specific area of the city. This activity was intended to reduce the amount of congestion in the area.

They believe that this action makes it more difficult for them to operate successfully and threatens their capacity to make a living.

As the leaders of Zongo Communities work to restore order, motorists and commuters have been left stuck in the traffic that has ensued.

However, the police have since left the scene, and it is now up to the officials in charge of the Zongo Community to work towards reestablishing normalcy.

As a step aimed at preserving order and avoiding additional disruptions, community leaders have taken proactive measures to stop the youth from burning tyres in the middle of the road. These leaders have intervened in this situation.

In light of the fact that tensions have not subsided, it is clear that the efforts of local governments to reduce congestion in metropolitan areas are not without their share of obstacles.

Muntaka Mubarak, a member of parliament from the Asewase seat, was successful in persuading the demonstrators to relocate to Aboabo Park.
