EC identifies errors in presidential nomination forms

The Electoral Commission (EC) has issued updates on the filing of presidential nomination forms for the impending December 2024 elections. The deadline for submitting the forms was Friday, September 13th, 2024.

Samuel Tetteh, Deputy Commissioner in Charge of Operations, offered an update on the process at a media interaction, emphasizing the discovery of inaccuracies in the forms filed.

According to Mr. Tetteh, the EC has already begun evaluating nomination forms filed since Monday and has written to the candidates to alert them of any irregularities found.

“The law states that if there are errors on the form submitted, candidates have the right to effect those corrections,” the attorney said.

He stated that one common problem found on the forms is the same person endorsing many candidates.

“You may discover that the candidate is unaware of whether or not you support them. “When such errors are discovered, we notify them because it will reduce the number of supporters expected,” he stated.

He also stated that the EC has alerted persons who filed their forms between Monday, September 9th, and Thursday, September 12th, 2024, to make the necessary adjustments. He stated that the panel will work overnight to analyze submissions and make any required adjustments.

“The commission will give them up to tomorrow to make the necessary corrections,” Tetteh told me.

He further stated that if a specific person sponsoring two separate candidates is identified, the candidate must secure a new endorsement from another individual within the time frame specified.

“Because today is the last day for filing, the commission will allow them up to tomorrow to complete this process,” a spokesperson said.

According to the commission, the final deadline for any type of modification is 24 hours after the deadline, giving candidates till Saturday, September 14, 2024, to verify their forms are correct.

“From Monday until yesterday, candidates were expected to make all adjustments by today. However, because certain files are still pending today, the commission will extend the deadline until tomorrow,” Tetteh remarked.

The EC has slated September 17 to announce candidates for the December 2024 elections.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled Tuesday, September 17th, to decide the destiny of presidential and parliamentary candidates who have applied to run in the 2024 General Elections. The EC will only announce the names of individuals who have completed the nomination procedure.
