Deep water on road traps woman in car, prompting rescue in Granite Falls

A woman was trapped inside her vehicle after it was nearly immersed in water on a flooded roadway in Granite Falls. Rescue crews raced to the scene to perform a water rescue.

When the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office made the announcement on Tuesday morning at approximately 6:31 a.m., they stated that Engebretsen Road was blocked between 172nd Drive Northeast and the 17000 block because there was water on the highway.

After arriving at the scene, crews from FOX 13 discovered that the woman’s vehicle was almost entirely submerged in water, going all the way up to the windshield.

The woman was retrieved without incident and was claimed to be in good condition by the first responders who arrived at the scene.

In order to prevent people from driving through this flooded area, road closure signs have been strategically placed throughout the area.

As a result of a series of atmospheric river storms that are delivering heavy rain to the region, which is now melting mountain snow and sending water into low-lying areas, there is an increasing degree of concern regarding the possibility of flooding in the Pacific Northwest. This is because rivers and streams in the states of Washington and Oregon are beginning to rise.

Since the stroke of midnight, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) has reported that over a dozen crashes have occurred in Snohomish County, and troopers have responded to each one.

The National Weather Service has issued warnings and watches for flooding for a number of rivers in Western Washington.
