Ex-Man City footballer Benjamin Mendy found not guilty of rape

Benjamin Mendy, a former football player for Manchester City, was found not guilty of raping a woman and of attempting to rape another woman.

In October of 2020, the 28-year-old man was accused of assaulting a 24-year-old lady in his £4 million property located in Mottram St. Andrew, Cheshire.

Another lady, who was 29 years old at the time, accused Mr. Mendy of molesting her at his house two years prior to the attempted rape that she alleged he committed against her.

It follows a previous trial in January in which he was found not guilty of six counts of rape.

After a three-week trial at Chester Crown Court, the jury foreman finally gave out the not-guilty verdicts, causing the France international to break down in tears.

Before coming to a decision, the jury, which consisted of six men and six women, discussed the evidence for around three hours and 15 minutes.

“Mr. Mendy can be discharged from the dock,” said the judge, Steven Everett.

At a previous trial, the footballer, whose contract with the club expired earlier this month, was found not guilty of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault relating to four young ladies or teenagers. These charges were brought against the footballer.

However, the jury was unable to make a decision on two counts of rape and attempted rape, which resulted in the need for a new trial.
