Charles Sobhraj Biography
Charles Gurumukh Sobhraj Hotchand Bhawnani, a French serial murderer, fraudster, and robber, was born on April 6, 1944 in France. He is known for his crimes. In the 1970s, he targeted Western visitors traveling through South Asia on the so-called “hippie trail.”
Because several of his victims were found wearing bikinis, he became known as “the Bikini Killer.” He was also known as “the Splitting Killer” and “the Serpent” due to the fact that he could elude the authorities in the same manner as a snake.
At least 20 tourists are believed to have been killed by Sobhraj in South and Southeast Asia, with 14 of the deaths occurring in Thailand.
After being found guilty, he served his sentence in an Indian prison from 1976 till 1997. After he was fired, he took early retirement and moved to Paris, where he continued to complain about how terrible he was. Sobhraj made his way back to Nepal in the year 2003.
Charles Sobhraj was taken into custody, put on trial, and ultimately sentenced to life in prison. The Supreme Court of Nepal commuted his sentence to time served on December 21, 2022, after he had already completed 19 years of the total 20-year term. The reason given for his release was that he was elderly. On December 23rd, he was finally liberated and sent back to France.
Charles Sobhraj utilized his good looks and brains to advance in his criminal profession and become a celebrity. He was described as “handsome, charismatic, and absolutely without scruples”, and he used these qualities to his advantage. Additionally, he enjoyed the limelight of his celebrity status.

Originally from Quebec in Canada, Marie was a medical secretary until she became Sobhraj’s accomplice in his spree of drug trafficking and murder. During this time, Sobhraj was on a killing and drug dealing spree.
