Bishop Salifu Amoako and Wife Arrested Over Son’s Involvement in Fatal East Legon Accident

Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako, founder of Alive Chapel International, and his wife, Mouha Amoako, have been taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service after their son was involved in a fatal accident in East Legon on Saturday, October 12, 2024.

The neighborhood has been stunned by the crash, which claimed the lives of two 12-year-old children.

After their 16-year-old son, Elrad Salifu Amoako, caused the accident, the couple is presently being held and aiding with investigations, according to a police statement released on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

Elrad Salifu Amoako struck a Honda Acura 4×4 at Mensah Wood Street while operating a Jaguar SUV registered GN 7801-20. The two young children were among four other passengers in the Honda, which was driven by Joseph Ackah.

Upon impact, both cars caught fire and burned unrecognizable. The 12-year-olds Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh perished at the scene, while the suspect driver and his passenger were saved and are now being treated at a hospital.

In addition to paying condolences to the family, a delegation from the Police Management Board, headed by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, visited the hospital to see how the injured victims were doing.

Two of the five people in the Acura were treated and released from the hospital after the collision, leaving three of them alive.

The public was reassured by the police that the accident will be thoroughly investigated and that they were dedicated to providing the impacted family with closure. During this trying time, they also requested that people keep the victims and their families in their prayers.

Public outcry has been triggered by the occurrence, with many people wondering why a 16-year-old was permitted to operate such a vehicle given the sad result.
