According to information provided by his family, Bernard Kalb passed away on Sunday while he was at his residence in North Bethesda, Maryland. Kalb was a longtime journalist and the original anchor of CNN’s “Reliable Sources” show. He was 100.
According to Kalb’s younger brother, Marvin Kalb, the complications that arose as a result of a recent fall were what ultimately led to Kalb’s passing.
According to a CNN biography, Kalb spent more than three decades traveling the world and reporting on international news for CBS News, NBC News, and The New York Times. Kalb served as the first host of CNN’s show “Reliable Sources,” which he anchored from 1992 until 1998.
CNN Chairman and CEO Chris Licht said in a statement that Kalb was a pioneering journalist in the field.
“Bernard Kalb was a significant figure in the field of journalism, and the impact of his pioneering work to hold our profession accountable for its actions is incalculable. “On behalf of everyone here at CNN, please accept our deepest condolences to his wife, children, and the rest of the Kalb family,” stated Licht.
As the spokesperson for the State Department at the time, he was present in Geneva in November 1985 for the historic first meeting between President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. He was with the American delegation.
As a television correspondent, he had the opportunity to accompany presidents and secretaries of state on diplomatic missions, dating all the way back to Nixon and Kissinger.
In 1972, he was also President Nixon’s travel companion during his historic first trip to China. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the City College of New York.
