Akufo-Addo denies supporting any NPP presidential aspirant

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has denied the allegation that he is supporting one of the candidates vying to lead the New Patriotic Party into the elections in 2024.

Nana Akufo-Addo has stated that it is his responsibility as president to ensure that the New Patriotic Party wins the 2019 elections.

Nana Akufo-Addo stated, while speaking to NPP Communicators at a meeting held at the Jubilee House, that the claim that government machinery is being utilised to endorse a candidate is incorrect and must be treated with the contempt it deserves. He also stated that he cannot force a candidate on the party.

“The accusations made by some members of the party that the government is somehow allegedly “intimidating or coercing party faithful to throw their weight or support behind one of the presidential aspirants…the charge is being made that the government is placing its authority behind the Vice President.” I want to make it quite apparent to both you and the rest of the world that the story in question is one that is intentionally dishonest.

“It does not contain even a single grain of truth. Because of this, I am able to pound my chest and say without any fear of being contradicted that there is not a single person in the NPP who can say that I have asked him or her to support this or that contender.

This is why I am able to state that there is no one in the party who can say that I have requested him or her to support this or that aspirant. He emphasised, “I have not done it, and I know why I have not done it.” “I have not done it because…”

President Akufo-Addo stated that the administration did not intend to fire any member of the MMDCE or any political appointment just because the individual was supporting a certain candidate.

“No minister or deputy minister has been thrown out of his job or even threatened because of their support for their preferred presidential aspirant,” he added. “No minister or deputy minister has been threatened because of their support for their preferred presidential aspirant.”
