5 most difficult countries to visit and why

Traveling to some countries might be challenging for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to poor infrastructure, political instability, or stringent government requirements.

Whether you’re a daredevil adventurer or just plain interested in these off-limits locations, you should know what to expect.

What makes visiting these five countries so challenging? We’ll go over the reasons why:

1. Eritrea

People say that visiting Eritrea is the hardest thing they’ve ever done. Almost every part of a tourist’s stay is under the government’s thumb, from the necessary visa to mobility throughout the nation. Permission from the government is required for travel outside of Asmara, the capital, and tourists are asked to book their transportation through licensed businesses.

  1. North Korea

Guided group trips are the only kind of tourism allowed in North Korea. Official tour guides are required to accompany all tourists at all times. There are serious consequences for those who seek to travel independently, interact with locals, or explore freely.

3. Turkmenistan

Most tourists visiting Turkmenistan are required to have a formal invitation from the government. Visitors are not allowed to venture off on their own, even when invited, because they must be escorted by a local guide.

4. Yemen

Yemen

Travelers should exercise caution in Yemen because of the country’s political unrest and continuous civil war. It is nearly impossible for tourists to enter the nation safely owing to the travel advisories’ warnings about the risk of terrorism, kidnapping, and armed conflict.

5. Bhutan

The government of Bhutan charges a steep daily fee of about $250 for tourists. This fee covers all expenses, including hotel, food, and a guide. Bhutan is one of the most exclusive tourist destinations due in part to this tax, which helps fund the country’s initiatives to protect its culture and ecology from the negative effects of tourism.
