Who is Christiana Aguilera’s Mother Shelly Loraine Kearns

Christina Aguilera's mother, Shelly Loraine Kearns, has always supported her daughter, even though she often avoids the spotlight. Everything you need to know about the singer's mother and their strong relationship is explained here.

Christina owes a debt of gratitude to her mother for teaching her how to fight. The eldest of two girls born to Shelly and US Army soldier Fausto Xavier Aguilera, the singer of “Genie in a Bottle,” grew up in Staten Island, New York.

Unluckily for Shelly and the family, Fausto was verbally and physically violent, which led a young Christina to turn to music for comfort. On her 2006 album Back to Basics, the singer released the song “Oh Mother,” in which she talked about her abusive past.

The “Candyman” singer discussed how her mother's courage benefited her throughout her life in an interview with Paper magazine in 2018. She told the magazine, “I observed my mom having to be subservient, check her Ps and Qs, or she's going to get banged up.”

“You might feel empowered by it and decide never to continue down that road, or you can be, sadly, so devastated by it that you take a turn for the worst.”

When Christina was six years old, Shelly finally decided to leave Fausto and relocate her and her girls into their grandmother's house in Rochester, a Pittsburgh suburb. Later on, she married again and had a son called Michael with Jim Kearns.

Although Shelly and Christina's siblings went through challenging times at the Aguilera home, Christina was able to gain a lot of insight from the experience while still being a strong supporter of her mother.

“I made a decision very early that I would never put myself in a situation where I would feel powerless to a guy and that I would be able to generate money for myself and my future children so they wouldn't have to suffer at the hands of violence,” Christina told TODAY in 2015.

The setting in which my 7-year-old son and my 1-year-old daughter may feel secure and loved is very essential to me as their mother. I want to be able to enjoy music without having to use it as an escape for my kids, just as I did.

Christina finally transformed her getaway into a very lucrative career. She underlined during the conversation how crucial it is for every mom to have a creative outlet.

In spite of how much we all love our children, she said, “we all have distinct identities, and it's vital to have a release just for yourself.” We actually give so much of ourselves that it's critical to set aside some time for relaxing and engaging in creative pursuits.

Since her days as a Mouseketeer, Christina's star has greatly increased, and Shelly has continuously stood by her daughter's side through thick and thin.

Shelly was there to see her daughter receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010. She also stayed by Christina's side during all of her makeovers and sexual revolutions.

When Christina faced outrage after the release of the extremely sexual film “Dirty,” she reflected on how witnessing her mother's struggle taught her that she didn't need to let other people control her life.

It was an exciting and contentious period for her. “Women are humiliated for being overtly sexual or feeling strong in a specific manner,” the author said. “Either we are not sexual enough or we are not fulfilling enough of a dream for you.”

Christina was fortunate in that her mother's life and the way she brought up her daughter helped mold her into the person she is now.
