The American Football Coaches Association consists of almost 11,000 coaches and other persons employed at all levels of American football (AFCA). The American Football Coaches Association’s constitution states that one of its key goals is to “offer a venue for the debate and study of all football and coaching-related matters.” “Maintain the finest standards in football and the coaching profession” is another purpose. Both of these objectives are on the agenda.

The Division I Football Bowl Subdivision Coaches Poll was developed by USA Today and the American Football Coaches Association. The AFCA also compiles the Top 25 football rankings for Division II and Division III.
