Vybz Kartel released from prison after 13 years [VIDEO]

Vybz Kartel, the dancehall artist, is out of prison after serving 13 years.

After the Court of Appeal decided not to retry the performer and his co-accused for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams, they were allowed to leave the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in downtown Kingston on Wednesday night.

Kartel, whose true name is Adidja Palmer, Shawn “Shawn Storm” Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John were found guilty in 2014 of killing Williams in September 2011.

In 2020, the quartet’s attorneys filed an appeal with the local Court of Appeal, but the convictions were affirmed.

The Privy Council in the United Kingdom then heard the accused’s appeal, and on March 14, 2024, the murder convictions were reversed due to juror misconduct.

The Privy Council also remitted the case to the Jamaica Court of Appeal to decide whether a retrial should be.
