Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States, is currently on a nine-day tour of Africa and has just arrived in Ghana.
Following his stop in Ghana, the Vice President of the United States will travel to Tanzania and Zambia. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is Ghana’s Vice President, greeted her warmly.
When US President Joe Biden met with various leaders from African countries during the US-Africa summit in December, the United States made clear its interest in the continent.
U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and First Lady Jill Biden have both recently traveled to various parts of Africa in an effort to strengthen bilateral ties. This comes as China and Russia continue to expand their influence on the continent.
The discussions that took place at the summit in December will hopefully be expanded upon during the Vice President’s visit.
It is anticipated that she will engage in economic dialogue with President Akufo-Addo in the context of Ghana’s efforts to restructure its external debt.
