There was frustration and confusion at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) in the early hours of Thursday, April 24, 2025, as patients who had arrived early for medical attention were met with empty consulting rooms
On April 23, TTH doctors cited “unwarranted attacks” by Tamale North MP Alhassan Suhuyini and Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh as the reason for an indefinite suspension of emergency and outpatient services.

The Doctors’ Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH) held an emergency general assembly meeting, during which the decision was made.
It was released just hours after the group had previously issued a statement denouncing an event that occurred during the minister’s Tuesday, April 22 visit to the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit.

The Association declared that “all DATTH members have proceeded on an indefinite suspension of all emergency and outpatient services (General OPD, Antenatal clinic, Specialist clinic, Paediatrics OPD).”
During a Citi News visit on Thursday, April 24, the hospital displayed lines of patients waiting in the emergency and outpatient departments, but no physicians or other medical staff were visible.
