“If I Were A Nigerian Girl, I Would Never Date A Nigerian Man” – Timaya Says

The popular Nigerian artist Timaya has been transparent about his dating patterns. He has given an explanation for his current lack of a Nigerian girlfriend and stated that, if he were a woman, he would be reluctant to date male Nigerians.

The artist went into great detail about his dating preferences in an interview with Beat 99.9 FM.

Timaya stated in the interview that he avoids relationships with Nigerians because he finds dating someone who is similar to him in terms of origin, upbringing, or environment to be uninteresting.

Timaya declares, “If I were a Nigerian girl, I would never date a Nigerian man.”

The artist, who was born in Bayelsa, made a clear analogy between a police officer and a criminal and connected these kinds of interactions to a toxic dynamic.

The performer revealed that even though he has nothing against Nigerian men, he feels that a romantic relationship would lose its spark if the two parties have too similar backgrounds.

The Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace (IIFWP) named Timaya a Peace Ambassador in 2011. As co-founder of the IIFWP, Dr. Hak Ja Haan Moon said he is “one of those individuals whose lives exemplify the ideal of living for the sake of others, and who dedicate themselves to practices which promote the founding ideals of the IIFWP.”
