The minority in Parliament has demanded that Sammy Gyamfi, the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD), be suspended or fired immediately following a viral video in which he is seen reportedly handing away US dollars to evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, also known as Nana Agrada.
The video, which has aroused worldwide outrage, shows Sammy Gyamfi handing over an undisclosed sum of money to the former fetish priestess.
Despite offering an apology for the incident, the Chief of Staff has summoned the acting CEO due to the growing scandal.
Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama, Member of Parliament for Walewale and member of the Finance Committee, sought immediate action from the President during a press conference on Monday, May 12, 2025.
“The minority demands that Sammy Gyamfi, the Ghana Gold Board’s acting CEO, be suspended immediately. “This violates the Code of Conduct, the Forex Exchange Act, and the Currency Act,” Dr. Mahama said.
He emphasised that Gyamfi, as a well respected lawyer, could hardly claim ignorance of the law. “Despite the Chief Justice’s assertion that ignorance of the law is no justification, Sammy Gyamfi is not ignorant of the law. “He understands the consequences of his actions and should accept responsibility,” he said.
In addition to the suspension, the Minority has called for a thorough probe into the provenance of the US cash seen in the video.
“We call for a full investigation into the source of the dollars displayed in the viral video,” said Mahama, a doctor.
Meanwhile, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has summoned Sammy Gyamfi to discuss the circumstances surrounding the viral video.
