Inter Milan and Barcelona messages for Suarez following death of legend

After hearing the news that Luis Suarez had passed away at the age of 88, numerous renowned characters from both Inter and Barcelona expressed their condolences and paid their respects. 

Suarez made 328 appearances for Inter after moving to the Nerazzurri from Barcelona in 1961 for a world-record transfer fee. During his time with Inter, he scored 55 goals and was a part of the teams that won three Serie A titles and two straight European Cups under the direction of Helenio Herrera. Suarez is considered one of the greatest players in Inter's history.

Inter sent the following message on their Twitter account first thing on Sunday morning: “The perfect player who, through his talent, inspired generations.” Ciao, Luisito.”

In the midst of everyone else's responses to Inter's tweet, Juventus posted their own remark, which said, “You have been a fantastic opponent. Rest in peace, Luisito.”

On the same day, Suarez's countryman and fellow iconic Inter figure, Javier Zannetti, paid homage to him via social media. He wrote on Instagram, “You were greatness, elegance, and class.” A true gentleman, a living legend, and an iconic figure for our much-loved club, Inter.

A smile that stays with you always and forever and is impossible to forget. Thank you very much, Luisito, for everything.”

Esteban Cambiasso is one of the former Inter players who is now enshrined in the Inter Hall of Fame and who sent a message on Instagram in tribute to Luis Suarez.

A tribute was also posted on Twitter by the President of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, which said as follows: “Luis Suárez leaves us, an amazing footballer who will be remembered for all time by all of Barcelona's fans. My deepest sympathies go out to every member of his family. Rest in peace.”

Several other clubs in Serie A paid their respects as well, including Inter's rivals Milan, Juventus, Cagliari, and Sampdoria, the latter of which was the team for which Suarez played till the end of his career in 1973.
