A student at Nkwanta Senior High School (SHS) in the Oti Region died under terrible circumstances after being hit by a stray bullet while completing a mock examination.
The incident occurred around midday, sending shockwaves across the school and the larger Nkwanta South Municipality.
In response, authorities have shuttered all basic schools in the vicinity as a precautionary move to protect students and staff.
JoyNews’ Peter Senoo met with a teacher who fled the stressful situation. The teacher, who requested anonymity, described the situation as chaotic and frightening.
The circumstances surrounding the occurrence are still unknown, including how the gunshot was fired and where it came from. Investigations are expected to be conducted to establish the root cause and hold those involved accountable.
