Sports Ministry distances itself from paralympic scandal

A group purporting to be members of the Ghanaian Paralympic team recently caused a visa scandal, from which the Sports Ministry has distanced itself.

Ministry officials have made it clear that the episode does not represent the culture of the country’s sports community.

In spite of the regrettable circumstances, the statement stressed that the entire sports fraternity’s commitment to honesty and dedication is not defined by this episode.

“At numerous international competitions, our athletes and officials have brought pride and joy to our country by consistently showcasing remarkable discipline and commitment to sporting excellence.”

It was not known by the Sports Ministry that the Paralympic squad was competing in the marathon.

As per correspondence from the Ministry of National Security, nine individuals from the alleged Paralympic squad are currently on the run after allegedly impersonating athletes to obtain visas to Norway.

The group failed to participate in the scheduled event and subsequently absconded.

However, the chairman of the National Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen, has strongly denied any involvement in the matter. He claims that the group forged documents using his signature to acquire visas fraudulently.

Despite the scandal, Team Ghana is currently in Kumasi, preparing for the upcoming Paralympic Games.
