Soldiers will beat you ‘mercilessly’ if you misbehave on election day – Army Chief

Lieutenant Colonel Jacob Codjoe, Commanding Officer of Achiase Jungle Warfare Training School, warned military personnel to deal sternly with troublemakers during the December elections to keep the peace.

Speaking at a peace concert in Akyem Oda, he asked voters to obey the law, return home after voting, and avoid disruptions.

Lieutenant Colonel (Lt. Col.) Jacob Codjoe, Commanding Officer of Achiase Jungle Warfare Training School, has issued a strong warning to anyone trying to disrupt the impending December presidential and legislative elections.

He warned that military forces will deal “severely” with troublemakers to ensure public safety.

Lt. Col. Codjoe spoke at a peace concert organized by the Salvation Army Church in Akyem Oda, Eastern Region, emphasizing the importance of maintaining national peace throughout the elections. He stated:

I am telling you right now that I will only interfere on December 7th within the Akyemansa enclave if the police advise me that they cannot handle the situation. And when I arrive, I shall not speak. I will beat you to hell. I always encourage folks to try me.

He asked voters to cast their ballots and then return home until the polls closed, returning later for vote counting. He also asked the public to return home after the results were released to avoid conflicts, emphasizing that security agents would not jeopardize national security for the sake of a few individuals. The commanding officer stressed:

As religious leaders, security leaders, family heads, and individuals, we have a responsibility to defend the excellent things our country has to offer. The only positive thing we have now is the peace we are experiencing.

Calm allows everything to progress. If we kill it now, nothing can survive. You will be hungrier than I am—this is a reality. Even during a war, I will continue to feed.

In a related incident, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, who also chairs the National Election Security Taskforce (NESTF), issued a similar warning. He expressed an unrelenting commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring a free and fair election process.
