Ridge Hospital assult: GRNMA responds to committee probe

Ridge Hospital assult

Jefferson Asare, the chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) Greater Accra, has expressed grave doubts regarding the validity of the Ridge Hospital assault investigation, claiming the committee neglected to consult the physician who performed the initial evaluation of the injured nurse.

Following the occurrence, the Health Ministry’s inquiry team, led by Dr. Lawrence Ofori-Boadu, came to the conclusion that there was no medical proof of a fracture or dislocation.

According to the investigation, the nurse reported her injuries one day after the alleged assault on August 18, and her medical records revealed no shoulder dislocation or wrist fracture.

The medical officer who examined Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, a rotation nurse who was allegedly assaulted at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, was entirely excluded from the investigation, Mr. Asare said in response to the committee’s final report on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Wednesday, August 27.

I can state unequivocally that the physician who examined the woman was not even questioned during the committee meeting. I have the medical report that was written and stamped, and I have the names of the people who were interviewed, so I know it for sure. This is the doctor’s name. Mr. Asare said that the doctor was not interviewed.

He maintained that a top medical professional at the facility, not nurses or even the claimed victim, made the first diagnosis, which was verified in a meeting with hospital administration.

“When we met with the medical director of Ridge Hospital, no nurse or other individual mentioned the dislocation,” he clarified. The dislocation was not diagnosed by the nurse. The woman was seen on Monday morning by a top medical officer.

He also questioned the committee’s selection of interview subjects.

“You go interview the department’s head of department. Which account will you be given by the HOD? The individual who saw the woman in issue for the first time will need to be interviewed. Was that doctor interviewed? No.

“Poly contusion,” a medical term used to indicate several bruises or contusions involving pain, redness, and swelling at the site of damage, was the nurse’s initial diagnosis, according to Mr. Asare.

What do we mean when we refer to poly “contusion”? It just indicates that there is pain, redness, and swelling where the impact occurred,” he explained.
