The issue surrounding claims made by Assin South Member of Parliament Rev. John Ntim Fordjour over two aircraft reportedly connected to money laundering and drug trafficking sparked a contentious discussion on JoyNews’ Newsfile.

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) National Communications Officer, demanded that Rev. Fordjour be arrested and that he prove his statements, or else he will be prosecuted.

If shown to be untrue, Mr Gyamfi contended, such grave accusations against an incumbent government would not go unpunished in other jurisdictions.

His name would have been blacklisted in other jurisdictions.

The MP should be arrested and forced to produce proof to back up his assertions if he declines to accept a National Security invitation, he emphasised.

“He is lying badly if he disregards the invitation [from National Security] and believes he can take advantage of his parliamentary privileges. since he’ll be taken into custody. There are some of us who will insist that you provide proof that he has been arrested.

The Defence Committee’s Ranking Member, however, did not accept that.

“Sammy, I dare you to call them to come and arrest me right here in the show,” struck back Rev. Fordjour.

Following reports that a private jet and an air ambulance remained in Ghana for several days before leaving for the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, the minority demanded that national security provide more transparency.

Rev Ntim Fordjour asserted, citing intelligence, that the plane might have been carrying illegal goods like cocaine and substantial quantities of US money.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, and other government officials have called the accusations unfounded and accused the MP of disseminating false information without conducting due diligence.
