The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced that, beginning September 1, 2023, charges for both electricity and water will go up by 4.22% and 1.18%, respectively.

This comes as a result of the conclusion of the regulatory process that the PURC followed in order to make the quarterly adjustment to the tariff.

The process for reviewing tariffs on a quarterly basis attempts to monitor and account for changes in the primary elements that are considered when setting prices for natural gas, electricity, and water.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) published a statement on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, stating that “the Commission, however, approved a 4.22% increase across the board in the average end-user electricity tariff for non-lifeline residential customers.”

In addition, it was stated that “for the typical end-user of water, Life-Line customers will not experience any increase or change in tariff.” Despite this, the Commission decided to go ahead and authorize a 1.18 percent hike in prices for all other water consumer groups.
