President Mahama appoints new NLA boss following Sammi Awuku’s resignation

President John Dramani Mahama has named Mohammed Abdul-Salam as the acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), following Samuel Awuku’s resignation on Monday, January 13, 2025.

In a letter to the President, Mr. Awuku indicated that his resignation would allow him to focus on his parliamentary obligations for the Akuapem North seat.

He asked the President to appoint a successor to guarantee a smooth handover.

Abdul-Salam has been appointed as his replacement under Article 195 (1) of the Constitution and Section 45(1) of the National Lotto Act of 2006 (Act 722).

The appointment, which takes effect immediately, was confirmed in a letter signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President.

However, he is subject to the Board of the NLA’s legally mandated recommendation, which is provided in cooperation with the Public Services Commission, prior to ultimate approval.

In a related event, President Mahama has presented a second batch of sector minister and regional ministry nominees to Parliament Speaker Alban Bagbin.

The announcement, dated Thursday, January 16, 2025, and signed by the President’s Acting Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, includes nine ministerial nominees and three regional minister nominees.
