The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a warning that the country should expect severe and frequent rains in the coming days.

The advice comes after a recent rainstorm caused flooding in several areas of the Greater Accra Region, including Pantang, Nsawam, Lakeside, and Kasoa.

Felicity Ahafianyo, Head of GMet’s Central Analysis and Forecast Office, spoke on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Monday, May 19, emphasising the importance of increased public awareness during the current rains.

She recommended residents in flood-prone areas to consider relocating, pointing out that the seasonal downpours had already begun.

“When we released the seasonal forecast, we stated that the intensity is likely to be more or higher, and that the frequency is also something we need to be aware of. It has already started. “As we saw yesterday along the coast,” she explained.

“On Friday, we experienced a similar situation in the Volta Region, where it rained for over an hour. This will continue till the primary rainy season in the southern section is gone,” she said.

Ahafianyo also urged the media to support GMet’s efforts by providing regular weather updates to keep the public informed and prepared.
