Police officers jubilate over Dampare’s dismissal

Some police officers are celebrating Christian Tetteh Yohuno’s appointment as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), expressing enthusiasm for the leadership transition.

IGP Yohuno was sworn in by President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, March 14, at the Jubilee House, succeeding Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

Officers were spotted jubilating, celebrating his leadership, and enthusiastically welcome him to Police Headquarters following his swearing-in ceremony.

Personnel are excited about his leadership and the future of the Ghana Police Service during his tenure.

In a dramatic display of jubilation, some officers publicly sprayed money on the newly named IGP, symbolising their enthusiasm and acceptance for his selection.

During the celebrations, some police officers openly criticised former IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, calling him a “tyrant” and “dictator.” They claim that his removal has “freed” the police force from his control.

Their reply indicates a shift in expectations under the new leadership, as officers expect a different approach to policing and administration from IGP Yohuno.
