After a fire completely destroyed his home in the Apromase community in the Ashanti Region, a police officer who worked for the Ashanti Regional Police Command’s Anti-Robbery Unit was found dead.

The fire that reportedly broke out late on Sunday night claimed the lives of Sergeant Owusu Asante Baafi, his wife Yaa Achiaa, and their infant child, who was just three months old.

It is unknown what started the fire, but investigators from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were already on the scene to get a head start.

According to a neighbor who lived nearby, “I heard some noise and walked out of my room,” 3news.com quoted the resident.

“At that time, I looked over and noticed a cloud of dense smoke billowing from the chamber of the deceased and moving to my room.” I was in a hurry, so I immediately roused up my two boys and hurried them downstairs.

Due to the presence of the steel door and the burglar-resistant window, the guys who came outside were unsuccessful in their attempts to break in and save the officer and his family. Within a matter of minutes, the fire had spread to each of the five units located on the top floor.

In order to assist with the investigations being conducted, there were also several police officers present at the location.

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, is now on his way to the Ashanti Region in order to express his condolences to the relatives of the victims.

The mortuary of the hospital located in Living Waters has received the deceased patients’ bodies. Pictures indicated that the fire had completely destroyed the apartment’s roof, which had two levels.
