The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare, has given the order for all police personnel and their families to immediately relocate from a housing facility in Apromase to another site. The facility in question is located in another area.
This occurred after a fire tore through apartments that housed members of the police department and their families.
A police officer named Sergeant Owusu Asante Baafi, who was 35 years old and worked in the Anti-Robbery Unit of the Ghana Police Service, lost his life in the fire together with his wife and their infant child, who was just three months old.
As a result of the event, a number of other police officers and their families have been forced to relocate, and all of them have reported feeling traumatized.
An inquiry into the occurrence has been opened by both the police and the Ghana National Fire Service in conjunction with one another.
The Inspector General of Police, when speaking to the victims, stated that as part of the investigations, there would be a full structural and technical inspection of the facility.
Additionally, professional psychologists are being deployed by the Police administration in order to provide the victim with psychosocial care.
When the IGP went to express his condolences to the victims, he was joined by a few top members of the police administration. These officers told the victims that the police would do their best to meet their requirements.
