Police Night Patrol squad detains 5 alleged land guards; three remain at large in Accra

Five alleged land guards were apprehended by a police night patrol squad in Adjiriganno, in the Greater Accra Region. Three further people, though, are thought to have eluded capture. Among the suspects’ belongings was a 12-BB Mossberg pump action handgun. As the police look for the fugitives, the suspects were brought before an Accra Circuit Court.

The prosecution said in court that the Top Kings Estate Company’s private security guard had witnessed the suspected vandals breaking into newly built properties there. Three of the suspects managed to flee, but the Police were dispatched right away and showed up at the scene Francis Avorgbedor, Abdulai Fatau, Baah Samuel, Razak Seidu, and Akrubilla Annanfo were the five people seized.

When the police caught the suspects, they admitted to them that Ian Morris, the general manager of Empire Builders, had reportedly recruited them to the job site.

The accused criminals are prohibited from possessing a Mossberg pump action handgun without a permit, participating in land guard activities that violate Section 7(7) of the Criminal Offenses Act of 1960, or preparing for future offenses.

After the Circuit Court denied the defendants’ counsel’s request for bail and ordered them to appear again on Tuesday, August 31, 2020, the suspects were placed on remand while the search for their missing teammates continued.
