Police invite Wontumi FM/TV presenter over publication of news

The Ghana Police Service has announced that it has invited Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a Kumasi-based radio and television broadcaster, to assist with investigations into disseminating false information about the upcoming general election on December 7.

The Police invitation is tied to an event involving a viral video on social media.

According to a police statement, the video shows Oheneba Nana Asiedu in the studios of Wontumi FM in Kumasi, pushing voters to vote for presidential candidates on different days.

The authorities have stated that this material is misleading and does not accurately reflect the election procedures.

The police classified the remark in the video as “false and likely to disturb the public peace.”

They voiced alarm about the potential effects of such misinformation, pointing out that it could disrupt the electoral process and cause unnecessary confusion among voters.

In their statement, the police asked the public, particularly media professionals, to exercise caution and responsibility while spreading information.

They urged caution in the publication of any news that could be inaccurate or cause a disturbance in public order, reminding media professionals of their responsibility to provide accurate and responsible reporting.
