Teachers from the 2022 class of Colleges of Education-trained graduates are picketing at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters in Accra, vowing to spend the night there due to months of unpaid pay and delayed personnel identity numbers.

The teachers, who gathered on the premises on Monday, June 23, claimed they had been waiting for more than two hours with no official engagement, despite having sent a written letter stating their issues.

Tensions rose when police officers arrived to disperse the crowd and issued a three-minute ultimatum. The demonstrators refused, causing cops to physically remove them from the scene.

Undeterred, the teachers plan to continue their action by submitting a petition to the Ministry of Finance and then marching to Parliament to raise national attention to their predicament.

“When the MPs enter, we will raise their attention to what the administration is putting us through. ‘They should give us our staff IDs and the money owed to us,” one leader stated.

“The decision we’ve taken is to stay here so that tomorrow morning, we can go to the Finance Ministry to present the petition and then proceed to Parliament,” he informed us.
