Parliament reconvenes today

Parliament will meet today, Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), marking its first sitting after the historic December 7 parliamentary elections.

This session follows an official circular from the Speaker’s Office on December 11 that confirms the meeting’s venue.

Parliament reconvenes today

The December 7 elections changed Ghana’s political landscape, with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) winning a parliamentary majority.

Several prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament, including Ursula Owusu-Ekulful, Henry Quartey, KT Hammond, and Andy Appiah-Kubi, have lost their seats, shifting the balance of power in the legislature.

The NDC’s electoral victory continued to the presidential campaign, where John Dramani Mahama defeated the NPP’s Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Prior to the elections, the Majority Caucus, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, consistently pushed Speaker Bagbin to recall Parliament for important legislative problems.

However, Speaker Bagbin refused these requests, stating that legislative activity would be postponed until after the elections.
