Over 100 NPP MPs want Bawumia as flagbearer – Aliu Mahama

Umar Farouk Aliu Mahama, the Member of Parliament for the Yendi seat, has revealed that many of the New Patriotic Party Members of Parliament are cheering for vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to become the next flagbearer of the party.

According to Mr. Mahama, Dr. Bawumia stands out among the individuals who have presented themselves as candidates for the position of flagbearer of the NPP so far.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, the Chairman of Parliament’s Muslim Caucus stated that even though the other aspirants are equally qualified, the Vice President is the right person to take the country to the promised land considering his time working with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He made this statement in light of the fact that the vice president has worked closely with the current president.

We are brazen enough to announce that we want Mahamudu Bawumia to take us to the promised land and also unite the party after the elections.” As for me and the bulk of the bulk MPs, we are rooting for the Vice President, and that is a fact. We are routing for the vice president, and that is a fact.

“Although we have not had the opportunity to meet any of the other candidates for the presidency, it was abundantly clear during our meeting with the Vice President that everyone in the room wants Dr. Bawumia. We are not saying that everyone wants him, but at least more than one hundred MPs want him.”

In addition, Mr. Mahama claimed that he is optimistic “that Bawumia will win [the presidential primaries] with over 80 percent of the votes.”

The Vice President shared his decision to run for president of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during a meeting with members of the Majority Caucus in Parliament on Tuesday, May 2. The NPP Presidential Primaries are scheduled to take place on November 4, 2023.

He has competition from nine other individuals, one of whom is Alan Kyerematen, a three-time candidate for this office who withdrew in January 2023 in order to focus on his bid for the presidency.
