Here’s everything you could have missed regarding the re-collection of results for the nine disputed constituencies from the December 7 election.
The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has won seven of the nine disputed constituencies in the 2024 presidential election. This follows the Electoral Commission’s decision to re-collate results in these constituencies, citing anomalies and criticism of the Commission during the declaration of some results.
The contentious re-collation took place on Saturday, December 21, at the Electoral Commission’s (EC) Greater Accra Regional Office, surrounded by strong security. However, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) called the process illegitimate, citing a pending Supreme Court complaint.
Despite the boycott, the Commission carried out the process and announced winners for seven constituencies, as follows:
- Nsawam-Adoagyiri (Eastern Region).
Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the incumbent Member of Parliament and Majority Chief Whip, retained his seat after being proclaimed the winner following days of impasse.
Annoh-Dompreh, who ran on the NPP ticket, received 29,640 votes, defeating his major opponent, Amenorpe Philbert Fummey of the NDC, who received 29,433 votes.
- Okaikwei Central (Greater Accra Region).
On December 8, the NDC’s Baba Sadiq was proclaimed the winner of the constituency based on pink sheets from 141 polling stations, with 31 still in contention.
However, this ruling was overturned following a re-collection in favor of the incumbent MP, Patrick Yaw Boamah of the NPP.
Boamah won 21,099 votes, narrowly defeating Sadiq who received 19,368 votes. The NDC candidate contested the results, accusing the NPP of collaborating with the EC to rig the elections.
- Tema Central (greater Accra)
An earlier declaration supported the NDC’s Ebi Bright. However, this outcome was identified as illegal, with EC officials claiming it was declared under duress. Following re-collection, the results were reversed in favor of the NPP’s nominee, Charles Forson, who received 18,870 votes. Bright finished in a close second, with 18,815 votes.
- Ahafo Ano North(Ashanti Region)
Nana Agyemang-Prempeh, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, won this seat with 20,353 votes. Kwasi Adusei of the NDC came in a close second, with 20,232 votes.
- Ahafo Ano South Western (Ashanti Region)
After re-counting, the NPP’s Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah was declared MP-elect with 16,680 votes, defeating the NDC’s Sedik Abubakar, who received 16,540 votes.
- Obuasi East, Ashanti Region.
Following the recount, the NPP’s Patrick Boakye-Yiadom won with 18,558 votes, narrowly defeating the NDC’s Samuel Aboagye, who received 18,539 votes.
- Techiman South (bono East Region)
Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah kept his seat, winning with 46,663 votes. Christopher Beyere Baasongti of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) finished second with 43,429 votes.
Pending Results
Meanwhile, parliamentary results from two constituencies remain pending after the EC delayed the re-collation process due to a lack of hard copies of pink sheets in specific electoral locations. These include the Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North Constituencies. The Commission plans to reach a final decision in the following days.
