NPP observes 7-day mourning for Dr Akoto Osei

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued an order that all party flags in its offices across the country should fly at half-mast for the next week in memory of Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, who served as a member of parliament for Old Tafo in the past.

On Monday, March 20, 2019, following a brief battle with illness, Dr. Akoto Osei passed away.

The former Minister of State had been a steadfast member of the party in power up until the time of his passing, and he had served as a pillar in Parliament for a period of twenty years.

During the first term of this administration’s current government, Dr. Akoto Osei served as the Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation. The political party issued a statement saying it learned of his passing with “profound shock and disbelief.”

In a statement that was released by the National Chairman Stephe Ayesu Ntim, it was said that “he was also a renowned statesman, having served this country with distinction as a Minister of State at the Finance Ministry during the Kufuor administration and later as a Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation in the first term of the Akufo-Addo administration.

He was also a renowned statesman, having served this country with distinction as a Minister of State at the Finance”

The deceased party member was praised for having “embodied humility, dedication, and selflessness in his service to party and country,” according to the eulogy for him.

As a direct consequence of this, his legacy is being commemorated through the act of flying flags at a reduced height for a period of one week.

“May the soul of our dearly departed find comfort in the bosom of God, and may the family he left behind, as well as all of us in this party and beyond, find the fortitude to bear this great loss.”
